California Great Teachers Seminar

The seminar

A seminar built on the belief that faculty are the experts

The California Great Teachers Seminar is a high-energy summer retreat that brings faculty together in search of the “great teacher” within themselves. There are no experts and no keynote speakers as the seminar rests on the principle that faculty learn best from one another.

Whether you teach full-time or part-time, are a veteran teacher or new to the profession, the seminar gives you a distraction-free stretch of days to reflect on what great teaching is all about, alongside colleagues from across California.

What to expect

No keynotes

The program is peer-led from start to finish. Participants set the agenda around the teaching problems they actually have.

Full-time and part-time

Whether you’re new to teaching or have decades of experience, the seminar has something to offer.

Across disciplines

You exchange ideas with faculty across disciplines, where a fresh perspective can lead to your next great teaching idea.

Time to think

A few days away from the classroom gives you space to reflect, recharge, and engage with colleagues without rushing from session to session.

Earn two units of credit

Participants may enroll in Teaching Strategies for Higher Education Faculty and receive two units of post-baccalaureate credit from the Sacramento State College of Continuing Education upon completion of the seminar.
